what is OEKO-Tex?

an worldwide certification program for textile chain sustainability is the STeP certification program by OEKO-TEX. in addition to analyzing internal working conditions and the plant's environmental effect, the system also supports the use of environmentally friendly technology and goods. requests must be made, questionnaires must be completed, auditors must visit the factory, and an analysis and certificate must be obtained as part of the certification procedure. Improvements in sustainability, industrial health and safety standards, less energy waste, and a cleaner environment are all advantages of the certification system.

OEKO Tex is one of the must-have certifications standards for clothes and home essentials, with OEKO-TEX 100 Standard Certified products are made responsibly and dyed without any harmful chemicals, separating all the certified cloth from the typical norms. this benefits consumers and sleepers from the commitment. it is given to products that have been proven to be free of very dangerous amounts of over 100 chemicals

does OEKO-TEX certification mean the product is organic?

there are several differences between items marketed as "organic." a lot of brands claim that most of linen products are organic certified, but OEKO-TEX means cleanliness and safety. it is completely different from GOTS Certified products

consider buying bed linens that are OEKO-TEX approved. in that scenario, you may relax knowing that the cloth was processed without the use of any hazardous chemicals. OEKO-TEX certification, however, doesn't always imply that a product is organic.

but is linen organic?

organic products means they are made with no pesticides, and the fact that linen is made from the stalk of the flax plant which required no pesticides at all. let me tell you about the process of how flax is transformed into linen fabric. flax seeds are planted in March and harvested in July, and the flax grown for linen is planted closer together and grows taller. after the flax is harvested, it undergoes a process called redding, which involves exposing the plant to moisture to break down the pectin that binds the linen fiber to the stem.

the fibers are then separated from the stem through a mechanical process called sketching and hackling, and then spun into yarns of various weights and thicknesses. the yarns are sent to weavers, where they are positioned on a loom vertically and horizontally to create the linen fabric. the newly woven linen fabric is continually examined, and any weaving flaws are repaired by hand. the linen can be sold in its natural flax color, or it can go through some type of finishing, such as dyeing, bleaching, or washing.

what products can be certified?

the majority of materials may be certified by OEKO-TEX; the most popular OEKO-TEX items are linen bedding sheets, linen waffle blankets, and linen clothes.
