Our story
कथा
Katha means story in Hindi. So here is ours, from the first flax field to your bed.
It started with linen in 2017. Since then we added eucalyptus in 2024, cotton in 2025 and waffle, moved the sewing to Bali, and kept one rule: make less, make it properly.

it started with linen, and we never really stopped.
before there was a brand, there was the cloth. in 2017 we started working with linen, selling only to businesses. we learned how flax behaves, which weaves last, and why one linen feels soft and another one scratches.
then we saw the gap: homes with no personality, and sheets that were badly designed and outrageously priced. we couldn't unsee it. the idea sat with us for three years.
and then (un)fortunately, lockdown happened.
the katha started in 2020 as a passion project. the first pieces went online that november: stonewashed linen sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases, plus waffle towels and blankets, all made in lithuania.
“we have committed to making goods for a better lifestyle and the planet.”
A.C, founder

linen, from a normandy field to your bed.
our linen starts as flax in normandy, gets woven in lithuania, then takes a very long bath with stones. that is the secret to the soft.
- 01
grown in normandy
the flax is grown in normandy, france. no shortcuts at the start.
- 02
woven in lithuania
woven to a medium weight, 180 gsm for bedding. not too heavy, not too thin.
- 03
four hours with pumice
the cloth tumbles with pumice stones for four full hours at the factory. this is what makes it soft from night one.
- 04
cut and sewn in bali
our team cuts, sews and checks every piece, in small batches.
linen creases. that is the look. we did not forget to iron.
2022: our own atelier in bali.
in 2022 the sewing came home to our own atelier in gianyar. cutting, stitching and checking now happen under one roof, by women seamstresses who know every pattern by heart. small batches, made close enough to keep an eye on.

2024: eucalyptus. spun from trees, soft like a hug.
our eucalyptus line is TENCEL™ made from sustainably grown eucalyptus wood pulp. the fibre is so smooth that there is less friction against your skin and hair, and that is what your body reads as softness. it sleeps cool, breathes well and wicks moisture, which makes it a natural for a warm night.
- 01
sustainably grown wood
eucalyptus wood pulp from sustainably grown trees.
- 02
spun fine, woven matte
a fine, smooth yarn, woven at a 100s count. finer than the usual 80s.
- 03
sewn in bali
cut and sewn in our own atelier, in seven colours from white to midnight.
2025: cotton. we saw a gap in other materials, and felt ready to try.
linen taught us how to make things well, so cotton felt like the next challenge. we chose egyptian long-staple organic cotton, woven as a 400 thread count sateen. smooth, cool and perfectly suited to our weather.
- 01
long-staple cotton
long fibres make a smoother, stronger yarn. that is where the softness starts.
- 02
woven to 400 tc
dense enough to feel crisp, light enough to stay cool in the heat.
- 03
sewn in bali
same hands, same standards as our linen.
cotton at 400 tc is smoother and cooler than linen, but it won't have linen's rumpled look. different mood, same standards.
waffle: lithuanian flax, blended with organic cotton, sewn in bali.
the waffle cloth is woven in lithuania from 63% flax and 37% organic cotton, then cut and hemmed in our bali atelier. flax brings the structure and the quick dry. cotton makes it plush.

we are a design-driven company. we don't reinvent the wheel.
we take what we already have, the fabrics we trust and the shapes that work, and make them really nice. a small range, refined, instead of a big range, repeated.
the katha is a women-centric company. design and the craft of sewing sit at the heart of how we work, and it shows in the details.
2026: grand indonesia, and a showroom you can walk into.
in 2026 the katha opened in grand indonesia, central department store, level 2, jakarta. you can also visit our showroom in gianyar, bali, by appointment. come touch the cloth before you choose.
